Philosophy
My philosophy is that all reading done willingly is good reading. The trick is to nurture that choosing to read, and doing so should encompass reading in all its incarnations: books, blogs, web articles, letters, podcasts, any medium capable of conveying thoughts from one to another.
Vision
When I'm feeling cynical, what I see is a decline in the love of language, a relegation of words to merely utilitarian employment. I guess that my vision would be of a world in which our students learned to relish the richness of the written word.
Goals
My life goals include finishing the sci-fi YA novel I've been not working on for the past year and painting over the awful faux finish paint job in my kitchen. It's been like that ever since we moved in.
My goals relative to the SLM program have been to learn what I need to become a media specialist in a public school. No, not just to become a media specialist. To become a knowledgeable, forward-thinking, effective media specialist who is doing exactly what she's long wanted to do. What I've learned in my coursework here at UGA has put me on that road.
I want my media center to be a place where my students feel welcomed and comfortable. I want the students in my school to believe that reading is a pleasure, and I want them to have opportunities to use technology to access and use information for research, or reflection, or to create something new. .
